President Xi Emphasized the Development of Legal Talents

On Wednesday, Xi Jinping, the president of China, emphasized that we should improve the development of legal talents while visiting the China University of Political Science and Law. He said that the comprehensive advancement of the law was a long-term and important historic mission, which was related to our Party’s governing and rejuvenating the country, to the people’s happiness and well-being, and to the development of the Party and the country.

Xi attached great importance to it that we should look into the future, lay a good foundation and build a greater system. Meanwhile, we should improve the rule of law. If the improvement of legal talents failed, the comprehensive advancement of the rule of law can’t be done either. Besides, students should actively learn from the achievements of the rules in other countries. However, students should absorb them selectively, without uncritical acceptance.

During the visitation, Xi asked the youth to set a high value on their time to study more and more, and absorb knowledge like sponge. He also said that youth time is a critical period to develop and train a person’s abilities and ways of thinking. The youth should keep the sensitivity to new things, be courageous to practice and find the truth.

Five Things to Learn about the Start of Summer

Start of Summer, the 7th term of the year, begins on May 5th  and ends on May 20th  this year.Start of Summer signals the transition of seasons. On this day, the sun's rays reach an angle of 45 degrees to the earth. The temperature will rise quickly during this period, yet in northern China weather remains mild. Here are five things to learn about the Start of Summer.

Greeting Start of Summer

The term Start of Summer was originated at the end of the Warring States Period (239BC). Since it is a crucial time for the harvest of summer crops such as wheat and canola, ancient Chinese emperors in different dynasties attached great importance to the Start of Summer.

Checking one's weight

The custom of weighing people at the Start of Summer originated from the Three Kingdoms Period (220-180) and prevails in South China today. It was believed this practice would bring health and good luck to the people weighted. It is said those who were weighed would stay healthy in the hot summer and those who weren't would suffer illness.

Eating eggs

In ancient China, people believed a round egg symbolized a happy life and eating eggs on the day of Start of Summer was a prayer for good health. They put leftover tea into boiled water together with eggs and the original "tea egg" was created. Later people improved cooking methods and added spices to the eggs to make them taste delicious. Today tea egg has become a traditional snack in China.

Egg Competitions

Parents will prepare boiled eggs and put them in a knitted bag before hanging them on their child's chest. When at school, children gather together to play egg competitions by colliding each other's eggs in pairs and the one whose egg is not broken wins.

Take care of the heart

According to Chinese traditional medicine, Start of Summer is a key time to moisten the heart. When the weather grows hotter, dampness and heat can affect human health. Food rich in vitamins and cool in nature is highly recommended. Vegetables, such as cucumber, tomato, watercress and celery and fruits that include watermelon, pear and strawberry are top recommendations.

The Online Version Of China’s National Encyclopedia Will Be Launched In 2018

China is to launch an online version of its national encyclopedia next year, to compete with Wikipedia.

Officials said that more than 20,000 people had been hired to work on this project, which will feature 300,000 entries with about 1,000 words each.

Unlike Wikipedia, it will be created by selected scholars from state-run universities but not be openly edited by volunteers.

It will take the state into direct competition with local companies that have launched their own online encyclopedias - such as Baidu, Qihu 360 and the largest platform, Wikipedia.

Currently, users on the mainland can get some Wikipedia contents, but searches for sensitive topics such as the Dalai Lama and President Xi Jinping are blocked.

TahaYasseri, a research fellow at the Oxford Internet Institute, told the BBC: "The need for information in China makes people use Wikipedia through the usual anti-filtering tools, and this is far from ideal for an authoritarian state. So, this initiative is to attract more users towards the state-approved contents."

Is pizza healthy?

Pizza is healthy. And it isn’t healthy.Depending on the type of crust, the amount of cheese and the toppings used, pizza can rank anywhere from nutritionally decent to a diet disaster.Sodium from tomato sauce and cheese is rich in pizzas,so if you are watching your salt intake, you should eat with caution.Of course, the size of the slice and the number of slices you eat count, too.

Pizza pros include the fact that it offers calcium from cheese and disease-fighting lycopene from tomatoes. And pizza crust made with whole-wheat flour is healthier than regular white crust,as it offers whole grains and fiber and is digested more slowly than refined grains.

But what you put on your pizza can significantly impact its nutritional value.Toppings such pepperoni, sausage and extra cheese can boost saturated fat, sodium and calories, while slices made with thinner crusts and topped with veggies tend to have lower calorie, saturated fat and sodium counts.

Frozen pizzas can be a convenient dinner, but they too can vary in terms of ingredients and nutritional value, for they have different sodium content, so it’s important to read labels carefully. If you enjoy pizza on a regular basis, try making it at home using healthier ingredients, such as whole-wheat English muffins,part-skim mozzarella cheese and tomato to top it with lots of vegetables; The more colorful your pizza, the better!
